ECSU Choir, Christmas parades and more make the season bright

Are you looking for a Christmas parade, or two, or three? This weekend you got it.

Do you want choral music celebrating the Christmas season? Well, this weekend you got it.

Or how about a symphony orchestra, or perhaps a brass band? Again, this weekend you got it.

Yes, the holiday season is here and it’s arrived with a bang; at least this weekend packs a pretty good punch.

Tonight, when you’re finished perusing all of the art in downtown Elizabeth City at the First Friday Art Walk, you can head up to the second floor of Arts of the Albemarle to the Maguire Theater and hear the Carolina Brass Band. These guys will blow your holiday embroidered socks off with some great seasonal music.

The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the front desk.

If a brass band is not your thing, the Elizabeth City State University Albemarle Community Symphony Orchestra will be performing in the Fine Arts auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Saturday, things get busy.

First of all, you can start your day in Elizabeth City at 10 a.m. with the Downtown Holiday Market at Mariners’ Wharf Park. If you’re a fan of the summer market, or have never been to a market there, this is a chance to make up for all of those times you swore you would go, but just didn’t make it.

And you should bring the kids, too. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be making an appearance at the market. It goes until 2 p.m.

While you’re downtown, know that Museum of the Albemarle will be hosting its Holiday Open House from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Head over to MOA on Water Street, across from the Pasquotank River, and find out what a Victorian era Christmas was all about. And in case you missed him, Santa will also be at the museum to greet kids of all ages.
