Men's Lacrosse Weekend Matchup between Friendly Club rivals ...

For this installment of Lacrosse Unstrung’s weekly update were going to peep some Canadian West Coast Men’s Lacrosse action between the Beerhunter’s Lacrosse Club’s Team 1 and Team 2 this past Sunday March, 10 at Coquitlam’s Cunning Field. Both teams are stocked with plenty of talented Westcoast products both graduated and aspiring College level athletes who always bring an exciting brand of field lacrosse to the table when they meet. With the club underdog Team 2 having secured bragging rights for the season with a barnburner 9-8 victory over Team 1 in the annual October Beerhunters cup there was plenty of anticipation leading up to this second meeting of the two friendly rivals.

The night would start off with some light rain but otherwise a perfect night for some competitive field lacrosse in Coquitlam at the Towncentre Field Complex, the same sight of the 2008 U-19 field Lax World Championships. In a fast paced “Canadian style” field lax game possession would be a key factor in deciding a winner. With two sick men pull on both sides, Chelczynski old Kevin (Coquitlam Adanac Jr.A) and a team of Toomaj Tahamtanzadeh, face offs would prove crucial.

With the course of action in the first quarter, a team would pay the opener on a snipe by the beauty of New Westminster U-19 product Brandon Goodwin (not stated). Goodwin would scam hip extension and in the past goalkeeper Ross Manson to fast forward to the team a 1-0. Team 2 would not take long to respond to the other side, with Keith Ganges reap the benefits of a rebound in front, hit the ball past a goalkeeper of the team for the tie Mark Nichol. The back and forth action would be a staple in the first half, with Team 1 taking the lead and Team 2 answering shortly after.

Coquitlam U-19 product Wesley Berg would make a nice dodge move from X, circling out front and falling while still managing to get off a nice shot that he would tuck short side past Manson to make it a 2-1 game. Team 2’s Russel Thomas a former Simon Fraser University Lacrosse product would make a nice high drive from just below the restraining line, beating two defenders and firing and sub shot past the off side hip of Nichol to tie the game at 2’s.A game well executed set by a team Attackman Rob Van Beek would run into an outlet on the ground to clear his way to the top of the fold and bury a beautiful crossover shot in the bottom corner. New Westminster Leif Mydske products would close the scoring for the first quarter for the team shot a two stripes from the left side to make it a 3-3 game going into the second.
