It's Bigger and Better in the City of Fairfax

To experience “yacht rock,” handmade crafts, Gonzo’s Nose, Rocknoceros, gourmet food and the Great Zucchini, there’s only one place to be: the City of Fairfax Fall Festival.



Now in its 35th year, the fall festival kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it’s bigger and better than ever, organizers said.



“Our festival is a fantastic place to be,” said Leslie Herman, the city’s special events coordinator. “This year, we have three main stages, a beer garden, an expanded festival route, larger rides and we’re the only festival with all handmade crafters. We really strive to have something fun for everyone in the family.”



Herman said more than 400 juried crafters from around the region will sell handmade wares, such as vases, wind chimes, quilts, dolls, needlework and more. In addition to the crafts, there will be dozens of children’s games, rides, a petting zoo, music and an assortment of festival food. A Classic Car Show will be part of the attractions in the business expo area.

“One of the best things is that admission to the festival is free,” Herman said.



The festival has been redesigned this year to centralize the major activities in the downtown part of the city, from the historic area to Fairfax Village, and roads will be closed to make it easier for visitors to stroll through the festival. Amusement rides have been relocated to the Sun Trust parking lot to provide additional space for more rides this year.



“We’re really excited about a great line-up of music. Nocturnal Rush is a teen classic rock band that was very popular last year, and we have Gonzo’s Nose, a popular cover band as well as a group called Three Sheets to the Wind, a tribute to ‘yacht rock.

A pair of post earrings, no larger than a nickel can be worn in the ear lobe. Boys may not wear earrings. A watch and a ring on each hand may be worn. Bracelets can not be worn.
