Doctor Who Prequel Episode Released for "Let's Kill Hitler"
For those who can't watch, the episode features the Doctor (Matt Smith) receiving a call from Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) on his answerphone in the TARDIS. There's a funny little reference to the Doctor actually setting the answerphone's message, but then the episode becomes very drab.
Amy tells the Doctor that she wants news of his search for her daughter Melody, who was last seen being kidnapped by the evil Madame Kovarian (Frances Barber) at the end of the midseason finale, "A Good Man Goes to War." Amy tells the Doctor she knows that Melody will be fine, since she grows up to be River Song (Alex Kingston), but that she's more worried about losing precious time with her daughter.
As this message is being played, we get a dimly lit view of the TARDIS console. The camera pans slowly around until we see the Doctor, staring forlornly ahead, listening to the message before hanging his head in despair.
It looks like we'll be in a very interesting place for the Doctor when we return on August 27 with the episode "Let's Kill Hitler." I can't wait.

Here's why Funny Answering Machine Messages Work so Well ...
Sound familiar? Most of us, unless that message is enormously important, tend to hang up the phone before the recorded message is even half way through. The trust of the matter is that such pre-recorded messages are too formal and don’t connect us in any way with the person we are calling, as their own voice would. Funny answering machine messages recorded by us most definitely work because our callers feel as though we are personally asking us to leave a message whereas the pre-recorded messages are pretty much the same on all phones, be they mobile or landlines. They’re impersonal and lack any real care as to whether we really leave a message after the tone or not.
Even with a business phone where it might not be appropriate to record a personal message with humour, it is still way more successful if we record our own voice. Even with business phones you can have a chirpy message without losing etiquette. Business does not have to be bog standard formal. In fact if ‘formal’ worked then there would be no need to pre-record your own answer phone message because the factory default would do just fine, but research has shown that this is not the case, not even with business phones.
Musical Messages work even better.
If you are a bit creative and can add some background music to your personal pre-recorded answer phone message, then you will get yet another rise in the number of callers that leave a message after the tone. It’s important to strike a balance here though, meaning the background music really must be background and not compete with or be louder than, the voice. Good luck. Beep!
