A thoroughly miserable weekend at Traynor Towers - The Daily ...
The generator feeding the electric fence around Traynor Towers was on, buzzing and crackling in anticipation. Saturday was not a night for visiting.
After an afternoon which had promised so much but delivered nothing except pathetic excuses and embarrassing blame shifting the mood was as mean as a jar of wasps.
It was a struggle to subdue the urge to take a wrecking ball to Hampden. It was a case of making it through the night. Things would seem different, brighter maybe in the morning.
But they weren't any better at all. In fact they were worse because added to the despair still lingering from the day before was the realisation that Sunday was the day of something called the Great Scottish Run.
And the run was through the streets of Glasgow which meant that you couldn't get anywhere in the city quickly because the roads were blocked off. Shut down just so thousands of idiots in shorts could flounce and stagger down streets.
Who are these people? Closing the centre of Glasgow while scenes of a silly Brad Pitt movie were being shot was a big enough insult to those of us who just want to get from A to B without having to detour round the Perthshire countryside but to have Sunday ruined because of a procession of sweaty, jiggling bodies was too much.
They should be running in parks where they can't be seen. After all, the park is the natural habitat for all kinds of strange creatures, dog lovers, hoodies, druggies, jakeys, so why not joggers? Bet their times would improve dramatically.
Everybody would be happier if only they'd exercise their brains a little more and realise that squeezing their fat behinds into shorts and pinning numbers on their T-shirts doesn't mean they can run down the outside lane of the M8.
It's for charity. Really? Watch that lorry. Too late you're dead.
And anyway, why was it that so many of them taking part in the Great Scottish Run were walking on the city's main plank across the Clyde? Why on earth would anyone stroll across the Kingston Bridge if not to take a dive like Jan Rezek? But watching them shuffle across was just another reminder that we can't do anything right in this country, although we didn't really need further proof of that after the previous day when our belief and spirits were crushed by incompetence.
