Is the Richard Lapointe Case Our Own Penn State?
Yes, the Lapointe case begs for elucidation. It has the air of another case of injustice due to law-enforcement and prosecutorial laziness and pressures for solving a serious case.
But as for an analogy to Penn State, I've got a better example--one I have been involved in and exposing as an investigative journalist/legal-system activist over the past decade. Although there has been no public/media story on this, there has been some movement within the state's attorney organization. Nonetheless, I still feel that the story is one of importance for the public to know about.
It's a long, complex story. But highlights are: Upon filing a criminal complaint against corporate lawyers for stealing roughly $6,000 of medical films of mine meant for an operation on my neck relating to a car accident, state's attorneys illegally taped my phone as an initial step in a systematic, multifaceted effort to frame me for drug and/or sex crimes. The other prong of this cover-up was efforts by the accused lawyers and judges at the Bridgeport Superior court to cover-up their crimes by suborning perjury, forgery, tampering with evidence, witness tampering, and conspiracy.
Over several years, I've been the target not only of attempted framing in an effort to undermine my accusations supported by incontrovertible evidence, but also witness intimidation, vandalism on my car, stalking, defamation by bogus investigation, and false statements made to Federal officials.
I think interrelated persistent, metastasizing, and viscous crime and corruption among individuals in the public and private sectors of the state legal system is more like what went on at Penn State.

HARTFORD, Conn. — A rented U-Haul that struck and killed a Massachusetts tailgater at a Yale-Harvard football game malfunctioned as a Yale undergraduate drove the vehicle into a crowded parking lot, the student's attorney said Sunday.

"A truck is multiple times more likely to be involved in a serious-injury accident, because you have bigger mass and harder control and sight disturbances," said Fred Pritzker, a Minneapolis lawyer who has brought suits against rental-truck companies.
