N.H. men allegedly solicited driveway pavement jobs without permit
BATAVIA — Two New Hampshire men were jailed Wednesday after they allegedly solicited driveway paving jobs without a permit, Genesee County sheriff’s deputies said.
Stephen C. Batchelder, 31, of Mammoth Road, Hooksett, N.H., and Robert J. Batchelder, 33, of Thorpe Street, Manchester, N.H., were charged with soliciting without a permit, no log book and overweight vehicle.
Stephen Batchelder was observed with another person Wednesday morning soliciting driveway paving jobs on North Lyon Street, police said. About 11 a.m., Stephen and Robert Batchelder arrived at an address on North Lyon Street to pave the driveway for a resident.
Upon speaking to both men, police learned they worked for Affordable Asphalt and did not have a permit to solicit in the city of Batavia. Also, Affordable Asphalt had been ordered out of service by the federal government, police said.
The New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Divison was called and inspected the vehicle and trailer the two men were using. As a result, Stephen Batchelder was issued 15 other license, registration and equipment violations, police said.
Both men were arraigned in City Court and remanded to Genesee County Jail; Stephen in lieu of $2,500 bail and Robert in lieu of $750 bail. They are scheduled to answer the charges Sept. 13 in City Court.
