BROADWAY RECALL: Still Here? No, They're Back!
Where Broadway audiences last saw him in a starring role. Having the high-pressured responsibility of creating a stage version of Gene Kelly 's most famous film role, Correia earned a Tony nomination and charmed audiences by singing and dancing the title number in an actual on-stage rainstorm.(CLICK THIS PHOTO TO PLAY THE VIDEO!)
The senior member of the Follies cast, singing the thrilling "One More Kiss," is actually making her Broadway debut, though she was a long-time favorite of two of New York's most famous stages. The celebrated mezzo-soprano Rosalind Elias made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1954 and was a frequent attraction at both the old and new Mets, as well as major opera houses around the world.
At 82 years of age her career is still very active, but here's a sample from her younger days, singing Carmen After 20-odd years singing, dancing and acting in dinner theatres, summer stocks and the ever-popular audience participation murder mysteries (try improvising with audiences after they?ve had two hours of open bar), Michael Dale segued his theatrical ambitions into playwriting. The buildings which once housed the 5 Off-Off Broadway plays he penned have all been destroyed or turned into a Starbucks, but his name remains the answer to the trivia question, "Who wrote the official play of Babe Ruth's 100th Birthday?" He served as Artistic Director for The Play's The Thing Theatre Company, helping to bring free live theatre to underserved communities, and dabbled a bit in stage managing and in directing cabaret shows before answering the call (it was an email, actually) to become BroadwayWorld.com's first Chief Theatre Critic. No No Nanette: not over yet
Even though we started school in the beginning of August, and today begins September, my summer isn't over yet. Our little pool is still up and providing afternoon fun. The grass is still growing like crazy. And there is still some beach in my future. The official first day of Autumn is three weeks away, and I am happy about that. And I do want to catch up on this blog, only because at the beginning of the year when I was posting more regularly I was excitedly planning to have my blog printed out at the end of the year into a book as a sort of family scrapbook, and if I do that now, the book will have some rather large voids even though the year was filled. So here's hoping that I can catch up. Though as I recall, I was hoping to catch up on the blog when I was pregnant with Lizzie too...and that never happened. Oh, well.
