AM Alert: California Republican Party kicks off convention

California Republican Party convention begins its three day fall today in Los Angeles with a daily survey of presidential straw followed by a dinner featuring the Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, who is a candidate for president, , and the representative Jeff Denham of Atwater, who is not.

The results of the straw poll will be announced Saturday night. Click here to learn more about the survey. The convention will even use purple ink.

The Saturday schedule is even longer. Presidential candidate Ron Paul of Texas and Rep.Thaddeus McCotter of Michigan will speak at the small Lincoln Clubs. Lunch features Rep. Darrell Issa of Vista and radio talk show host Dennis Prager. Dinner speakers include Rep. Mary Bono Mack of Palm Springs Board of Equalization member Michelle Steel, state Sen. Mimi Walters of Laguna Niguel, and the Assembly Republican leader Connie Conway of Tulare.

Several Republicans spoke of California until the end of courting the Latino vote, and the party chairman, Tom Del Beccaro, will join several others, including Univision of "Voz y Voto" host Santiago Lucero, a Latino mayor, from 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
