Crusaders enjoyed fulfilling trip

The coaches are AJ Aguon, Bill Cruz, Jesse Lizama and Patrick Leon Guerrero. / Courtesy of Barrigada CrusadersDuring this past summer, the Barrigada Crusaders baseball team helped to make a name for Guam in the baseball world by taking an 18-day trip to challenge teams in California and Hawaii.
The Crusaders took an under-15 team and an under-18 team to play games in San Diego, Bakersfield and Waipahu against teams from all over the country. The under-15 team played a total of 12 games, while the under-18 squad played 14 in the span of a little more than two weeks.
After an 11-hour flight, the Crusaders arrived in Los Angeles on July 17 and then drove to complete their journey to Bakersfield. When they arrived, they had enough time to check in to their hotel and eat a light meal before having to play the first game of a doubleheader that day. In the first three days of their trip, the Crusaders played a total of nine games, featuring two straight doubleheaders, with the under-15 team going 2-2, while the under-18 squad finished 3-2.
On their third day, the Crusaders challenged the Tehachapi Trojans. After their game, the mayor of Tehachapi hosted a small barbecue for the team and presented the players and coaches the key to the city.
