Thousands back return of country show
MORE than 3,000 people came through the gates on Sunday to support the comeback of The Dyke Neuk Country Show.
Although produce entries were slightly lower than previous years, there were still nearly 600 entries and once again the standards were very high.
The Fun Dog Show was a popular attraction with more than 100 of the animals taking part with their owners. This led onto the Terrier Racing in the afternoon.
There were many stalls raising money and awareness for charities on the field including The Sanctuary Wildlife Care Centre in Ulgham, The Cats Protection League and the Benton Cat & Dog Shelter.
Donations were also collected for The Great North Air Ambulance and further grants will be made by the committee to local causes and charities once all expenses are accounted for.
Committee Chairman Heath Waddington said: “We were delighted with how the show went. It was a bit windy but it stayed dry and there was an excellent turnout from the public.
“We received plenty of compliments from the people who attended and the stallholders and they also said how pleased they were that this community event was back up and running.”
The show had to be cancelled last year due to an insurance claim against the organiser of the original event. A new committee was formed and it managed to stage the event this year after putting together a range of successful fund-raisers and getting a lot of support from local volunteers.

The 3rd book in Erik Lorentzen's The Elvis Files series is volume 4 and handles 1965-1968. Is it as attractive as the first two parts that were issued?
DesignThe massive book count 569 pages, including some page-sized ads. Just like the previous volume it handles the movies in depth. This information is decorated with tons of pictures. Thumbing through the book is a delight by itself.
ContentThe book starts with some publicity shots and a part adapted from Fortas’ book From Memphis To Hollywood precedes the famous visit to Tom Jones in April and the Hawaii holiday in May. Then it is time for the comeback… publicity shots, pics from the recording sessions, press conference, rehearsals and of course the special itself… they’re all there! Next to the great pictures (unfortunately they differ in quality) it is fun to read the positive press about it!
Then it’s time for a quite different Elvis… the bearded one! Charro , before the book finally finishes with another pile of candid moments.
ConclusionThis volume carries quite some candid pictures, which I happen to like, but because of the nature the quality is not as good as movie stills or publicity shots. To some that may be a minor, but to me those shots make Elvis more human and less God-like. It’s amazing how much time that man took for his fans!
Elvis was a highly gifted singer and not an actor. Though some of his early movies were promising. Sinatra in High Society was also mediocre. It was just a musical. And musicals can indeed never be compared, Andy_1. Elvis got caught in this rud and did not get out of it till the latter part of the sixties.
