Lasher, Zabrosky take final shots PIAA golf title
When Jimmy Lasher won the District 10 golf championship as a tiny freshman in 2008, it seemed certain that the General McLane youngster would be an annual state contender.
But it took three years before Lasher, who has grown several inches taller and is much stronger and longer off the tee, finally makes his first appearance at Heritage Hills Golf Resort today for the first round of the PIAA championships.
"The time I put in and the hard work has paid off for me,'' said Lasher, who joins Titusville senior Kennedy Neely as the lone District 10 players in the 44-golfer individual tourney field.
McDowell senior Karlie Zabrosky, who placed fifth in 2010, and North East sophomore Megan Moylan, the District 10 winner who finished 24th last year, are the D-10 girls representatives out of 24 competing.
Cathedral Prep's team, the 2008 state champion, is 6-for-6, appearing in the PIAA event each year since the team format began in 2006. The Ramblers are led by seniors Nick Bird, D-10 champion Cameron Zbrzeznj, Joe Kloecker, and sophomores Andrew Britton and Trey Brown.
Lasher shot a 74 at Oak Tree Country Club to finish fourth in the District 10 tourney, and had a 74 at Tom's Run Golf Course in the West Region qualifier to tie for fourth and punch his ticket to York.
"This will be my first time there, and I'm very excited to finally go,'' Lasher said. "I'm playing good golf and I am more consistent and confident with my game. I have never really taken lessons, but my father (Larry) works with me. He doesn't play that much anymore, but he really knows the game.''
