Who Discovered The Constellation Aquarius

This Week's Sky at a Glance

Supernova in M101. The new Type Ia supernova is still brightening in M101, the Pinwheel Galaxy off the Big Dipper's handle. Supernova 2011fe was discovered on August 24th at magnitude 17.2, reached 13.8 on the 25th, 12.5 on the 27th, and 11.6 on the 29th. By then it was easier to see than the galaxy itself in amateur telescopes through suburban light pollution. On the evening of September 3rd it was up to about magnitude 10.4 and still going!

Judge its brightness using the comparison-star charts you can generate courtesy of the American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) .

A normal Type Ia supernova at M101's distance, 23 million light-years, should reach magnitude 10.0 at its peak, assuming none of its light is lost to interstellar absorption in M101 itself. It's well within visual reach in a 4-inch scope. You'll be using the supernova to find the galaxy, not the other way around!

Moonlight increasingly returns to the evening sky around September 3rd or 4th. See our article, Supernova Erupts in Pinwheel Galaxy .

Friday, Sept. 2

Wait up till about midnight, and you'll find Jupiter glaring in the east and Capella, one of the brightest stars in the sky, twinkling in the northeast. Find the midpoint between them. A little lower-right from that point is the Pleiades star cluster, risen up into early display.

Saturday, Sept. 3

Low in the southwest as twilight fades, look well to the left of the Moon for orange-red Antares — a summer star on its way out for the year — as shown below.

And right next to the Moon, binoculars and telescopes help show 2nd-magnitude Delta Scorpii in Scorpius's head. The Moon occults (covers) Delta Sco as seen from parts of the southern and eastern U.S. (although in the eastern part of this zone, the event happens very low). Details .

Sunday, Sept. 4

First-quarter Moon (exact at 1:39 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time). Look for Antares and other stars of Scorpius to the Moon's lower right, as shown above.

Nights to become longer than days after Sept 23 equinox

“The planets will lie among the background stars of the constellation Aries, the Ram, Pisces, the fish and the constellation Aquarius, the Water Bearer, respectively. Uranus and Neptune will appear as blue spots in the sky as viewed from a telescope,"

This Week's Sky at a Glance

Uranus (magnitude 5.7, in Pisces) and Neptune (magnitude 7.8, in Aquarius) are well placed in the south and southeast before midnight. Use our printable finder chart for both. Pluto (magnitude 14.0, in northern Sagittarius) is in the south-southwest

With binoculars, try to also find Neptune, which is just one more constellation to the west of Pisces, in Aquarius, both just below Pegasus the Flying Horse. Remember that Neptune has completed only one orbit around the sun since it was discovered in

The 300000-light-year-wide blob of gas was spotted in the year 2000, shining at a distance of 11.5 billion light-years in the constellation Aquarius. It's called a "Lyman-alpha blob," or LAB-1, because it shines brightly in a characteristic wavelength

The astrology of Chaz Bono and the Aquarian Age - Astrological ...

At the age of 42 Chaz Bono has joined the cast of the television program “Dancing with the Stars” – an event which has caused widespread controversy and brought his recent gender reassignment surgery into the forefront of the news.

When you start to pay attention you will be amazed at how many newsmakers are in key astrological cycles.  28-29: the Saturn return.  41-42: the Uranus opposition.  So without even looking at Bono’s chart we can see that he is in the middle of a dramatic life cycle, the Uranus opposition, that inspires a radical departure from anything in his life where he is not feeling true to himself.

Chaz Bono was born as a woman named Charity Sun Bono March 4, 1969 (time unknown) in Los Angeles, California.  His Sun is in Pisces, the sign of the shapeshifter – the one who yearns for peace, tranquility, and beauty.  Pisces is the most mutable of the water signs and like water, it tends to adapt to fit the container  in which it finds itself.   This sometimes makes it more difficult for Pisces Sun people to know with certainty who they really are.  This is particularly true for Bono because his Sun makes no aspects to any other planets.  The astrological Sun represents our essential Self, and this suggests that Chaz has always has difficulty defining his role in life and having a clear sense of Self.

Bono, a former lesbian, says she realized she was gay at puberty and came out to her parents at the age of 18.  I have written about the effect of Uranus in the chart in gender issues, and here we see a tight conjunction of Jupiter (representing our search for meaning) conjunct Uranus (liberation and freedom from judgment) closely aligned to his Libra South Node, suggesting that these gender issues are something that he struggled with in the past, perhaps in past lives.  The combination of Jupiter and Uranus are often found in the charts of social activists, and Bono has become a highly vocal spokesperson for the GLBT community.
